I need a new favorite author

Why has no one mentioned Stephen King yet!?! He is like my favorite author of all time, I have literally read everything he has ever written. I especially love the Dark Tower Series, super epic and there are 7 books ranging from small to really good sized novels. Also The Stand. Also not all of his stuff is all blood, guts, gore, monsters and ghosts like people seem to thing, although a good portion of it is

Wow! There are some readers on here!

Y'all are reminding me of a bunch of authors that I forgot I loved (Sharon Shinn, James Patterson, Piers Anthony, etc).

I am printing this out to take to the library! Thanks for the help!

I haven't read through all the pages yet so I'm not sure if anyone suggested Tami Hoag but she writes awesome books. I'm in a book club and we are currently reading a book by Lisa See called "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". Not my normal type of read but it's really good so far!!!

My Kindle is always loaded with books that people suggest so I am loving this discussion.

x2 for Robert Jordan even though he didn't get to finish the series before passing away. Brandon Sanderson is finishing it from Jordan's notes and partial writings. Oh, and Robert Jordan also wrote a western/ historical type series "the Fallon series" which was written under the pseudonym Reagan O'Neal.

Also look at:
Military/war: Dale Brown... early ones were better:) I loved The Flight of the Old Dog
Sci-fi: C.J. Cherryh (edited oops... C. J. Cherryh not C.H )
Lee Child and his Jack Reacher series
Robert Crais ( I like his Joe Pike books better than his Elvis Cole books)

(edited for spelling)

Irish Country - a series by Patrick Taylor. It is a light read no murder or anything just a feel good series like Stephanie Plum books.
Also, Jan Karon's Metford series.

I really like Janet Dailey's "Calder Series" and Fern Michaels "Texas Series"

I do sometimes like the romantic stories with "some" fact thrown in about the old west, or old America.

One or two (or 12) that I don't remember being mentioned here: Nevada Barr- the Anna Pigeon series, each set in a different state park, Anna is a park ranger who also keeps running into crime scenes; Lee Child; David Baldacci; C. J. Box (main character is a wildlife officer), Edna Buchanan (main character a newspaper reporter in Miami); J. A. Jance (has three different series running..the Evil series, J.P. Beaumont, and Joanna Brady); Greg Iles; Faye Kellerman; Sue Grafton's alphabet series; Robert Tanenbaum; Jefferson Bass (mostly about the UT Body Farm); Lisa Scottoline (lady lawyers); Steve Martini; John Lescroart; Sarah Paretsky; Jeffrey Deaver. I've been on a murder mystery kick for the last couple of years. Prior to that it was all non-fiction, mainly biographies. I guess I get a little OCD with reading subjects. Happy hunting, and aren't you sorry you asked?

Early Stephen King, and Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman. Those are his best stuff. Before people started buying his books just because he wrote them.
