I need a new phone. Suggestions?

I have a Samsung Eternity II through ATT
It is a quick messaging phone, and I love it, but might upgrade to an I-phone or other smart phone before my 30 days are up.

This might not be what your looking for but just FYI virgin mobile has touch phones for 140 bucks and you get UNLIMITED text and web for $25 bucks a month... It's what I plan on getting.

Internet over international cellphone is expensive ($1400 in 3 weeks). Since you can plan ahead in this case, look into leasing a phone . A coworker that got more warning than just "drive to the airport now, get your clothes shipped" was able to lease a phone for some small monthly fee. Not sure if it had internet.

While over there, look into calling cards. Way cheaper than cell phone (except my coworker) or hotel phone.

Try to control where you are staying. If you have a laptop then it is worth finding hotels with access and internet hotspots. Use protection! (I use Linux). Seriously consider a Linux-based netbook. For $300 you do not lose your expensive laptop if it is stolen. It is also much lighter.

If you are going to some kind of technological backwater, like Japan, then your cellphone options may be disastrously limited.
