I need a quiet bantam.

Now I can just about guarantee that my roos will not crow at sunset or for a few hours afterwards, at least not unless someone disturbs them.

My silkie roos start crowing the second the sun peeks over the horizon. Usually they only crow for the first couple hours of the day on and off, then the rest of the day is quiet except for hen noises (including the 'I'm laying an egg' noises which is a bit loud).

Well, mine don't wait for dawn--they start crosing about 3-4 am. Afew years ago in church there was a Bible passage--I didn't copy it down to remember, but I think it was Old Testament. It spoke about praising God at different times of the day. Cock's crow was listed as a time as was dawn (and mid-morning, noon, etc.).

There is another place where it mentons chickens (or at least roos): Matthew 26:34 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."

That one I was quite familiar with. The other verse wasn't talking about an actual bird crowing, but rather identifying a time of day; from the context it was obviously between midnight and dawn.
