I need a show mentor!

I need someone to explain chicken shows, where to find them and what happens. I am in VA but I am sure we can email back and fourth. I am interested in showing myself. Thanks for helping. = Alayne

I'm not close to you but here is what I did.
I found a local poultry show, then I asked about the club, joined and was able to get lots of help on showing. best thing to do is go watch. make sure to check out the showmanship class. I found if you ask someone that doesn't have your breed, they are more willing to help then someone that looks at you as the competition. your first show is going to help you so much because the judge will check your birds and hopefull talk during the judging and tell you what they liked and disliked about your bird. this will help you in your breeding program. you may even be able to find someone that will help you improve your breed or point you to someone that can help you. I have birds that are not a qualified color, so they mostly are judged on type but I now see where I need to improve now that one of my birds has been shown (my 2 son's birds DQ as not purebreds)
