So sorry I am just getting back to you. I wanted to give an update and say that my girl made it through this attack, this time. She is older and I pushed vitamins, and minerals for two weeks in heated isolation. She is back with her mates and doing well. Until next time.......To answer your questions, I am in a VERY isolated area with no neighbors to really worry about. We do have wild turkeys in the area but I have 5 dogs who keep eveything away from us. I kind of wish the deer would stick around

I was told by the affiliate poultry veterinarian of OSU that the vaccine is as good as the people who are administering it. If you have Marek's in your flock, vaccinating your chicks is worthless. They will most likely have exposure and therefore the vaccination will do nothing. I personally will never trust that any poultry are "free from this disease." The veterinarian told me that it "is impossible to say that your flock is free from the virus." She stated, "99.9% of all poultry in the US have been exposed to the disease. I wholeheartedly believe this as I am a Health Professor and was recently informed by the folks at the county that 92% of all sexually active people between the ages of 14 and 44 have the herpies virus." If this is so with humans? I can't doubt that it would be anything less for our beloved chickens. I will try to get more info on the turkey question. Thank you for your questions. I think it helps us all. I would have NEVER thought I would be the one with this affliction in my flock. But I am. And I think education is the key to dealing with living the way we are choosing to live by having backyard chickens, homesteads, etc. I will get back to you soon about the turkeys. Thanks again for all of the support..I value all of you.
