I need an intervention...

Yep! Husband innocently brought up the idea of having 2 hens in a chicken tractor 1 year ago over breakfast. A month later we brought home six pullets. Now we have a big ol' coop in the backyard. My hen went broody three weeks ago so I thought I'd get her 2 chicks. I came home with 3. She took to them with no problems. Now I'm literally fighting with myself to keep from going and getting 3 more! I figure I can always sell them as started pullets or even layers if it gets to be too much. If broody's doing all the work why shouldn't I give her all the chicks she can handle? Chicken math! Ack!

@ cluckerkeeper - Ohhhhhh......

now you got me hooked on the idea of breeding
these only 1 week old chicks together!!! Any and all cockerel's out this
(including the ones that are going to be hatching soon) are going to be
shown, and sold. I do NOT need anymore roosters. 2 are enough!!!

Yeah, like that's gonna last though. Heidi loves her chickens and
that is for sure!!! Just ask her parents.........

Oh and one more thing; I had 8 chickens this morning when I fed them.
Went into town to meet with a friend, stopped by the feed store to pick up 6
Ameraucana chicks, and came home with 10 chicks!!! I doubled + 2 my flock
today.

LOL - you are too funny you know that cluckerkeeper? :)

I have learned not to go into farm stores with chicks. My eyes become fixed, my heart rate goes up and my hands begin to sweat. And they have the nerve to post
"do not handle the chicks unless you intend to buy them" Cruel, just cruel.

I am laughing right now you know because I know a chicken addict when I see one. Have fun with it, there are much worse things than nurturing a few..... chicks

One little bitty trouble with that. I had planned on buying 6 chicks
because I couldn't wait another week for the Barred Rock chicks
to come into the local Co - op with an empty brooder
begging me to put some chicks inside of it. The first thing I see when
I wake up in the morning. Doesn't help I set it up early to get my
BR's and they were ALL sold out all over town. I was going to wait
but when I realized that there were Ameraucana chicks for sale
at my local feed store, I simply could not resist. Soft fluffy cheeks!!!

I must be a weirdo. I did the chick thing fall of '12. 25 bantam chicks (+ 1mystery chick) from MM; 7 baby Silkies from a local breeder; 4 baby Seramas from a local breeder; 5 Bantams from TC....... All within 4 months. Ended up giving MOST of them away because they were boys.

So I decided I'd go the pullet route from then on to now. Sure the babies are C.U.T.E. But if you want Roo's I can pick 'em out! And I HATE to have to find homes for them. So..... No more chickies for me.
