Hi friends!

I'm day 28, and 5 out of 5 of my eggs have externally pipped (3 yesterday and 2 today), rocking on all sides, and slowly progressing to a zip. Please distract me, it's soooooo long, I'm agonizing!

Please share your experiences :)🥰

well, do you want to be distracted with a dead quail or a live chicken? cause I hatched chickens, and then a rat ate my quail. I can be very distracting. DISTRACT DISTRACT DISTRACT DISTRACT...............

Oh no..I'm sorry..... It sounds like my last hatch story... A raccoon pulled one on my 2 week old duckling (that I was about to put back inside) out of the enclosure passing through 16gauge 1X1 welded fence... I was pretty upset/angry/sad.... !

Please tell both stories !

story one: I hatched 17 out of 23 eggs from my chickens recently! I was hatching them at school, and gave them all to a teacher who said she was thinking about starting a flock. I didn't get to school early enough to see the first 11, but I saw the last 6 before they went home, and there were 5 little black chicks (one was part Maran, not sure what the others were) and the last one to hatch was brownish blonde and really big. I know my aunt has an Orpington, so I think that's what it is.

as for the quails, I used to have nine. now I have seven and 4/5. they are housed with chickens, but only the ones who are young enough to be similar sized. My English teacher, as well as some people here on BYC, say that the marks on my surviving quail (the 4/5 I mentioned) is consistent with a rat bite, although it could have scratched itself on an exposed screw, then been pecked by the chicks or the other quails, but the wound doesn't look like that. I have isolated her to heal, and I plan to fix the hole in the coop, so no more rats get in, and the screw is covered, by the off chance that's what got her.

Soon you will have baby ducks and they are the most distracting things in the world! I am going to get no work done today 😂

In the meantime here’s a picture to distract you: a duckling I bought about 6 weeks ago
