I need dog fencing ideas.

Im wanting to fence in my backyard in the spring. I need something cheap. Would you use hot wire? I was thinking of using the horse tape. My dogs that will test the fence are 100lbs and 70lbs. The smaller one can jump like crazy and she will dig.

I can move it later then and reuse it as opposed to welded wire. Ideas?

I would search your local craig's list and see if you can find an electric collar set. Those seem to work best for dogs that dig....otherwise, box wire and cinder blocks did the trick for my dogs! Best of luck...

PetSafe wireless radio fence. Best thing we ever purchased. They run about three hundred dollars plus $150 for each collar. I have a half dozen collars and one control box. They cannot go under it, over it, around it. It is easily hooked up and can be moved to any other property by just unplugging it and moving it. NO DIGGING!!!!! LOVE IT!. I cannot say enough good things about it. I would highly suggest it to anyone. It works for HUGE dogs- LGDs, St Bernards, and dogs that are smaller. I love it.

Only bad thing about an invisible/underground electric fence is that where it will keep your dogs IN, it won't keep other dogs or other predators OUT.

Electric fence works great and is moveable. They do respect electric

One of my husband's friends has the PetSafe wireless fencing for his pit bull, and it works amazingly well. We are planning on buying it this spring for our hound.

The one thing i don't like about the wireless system is that it's a circle. I just want them in the back. Price wise though it be about the same of either of them. My DH doesn't like the shock collar type because our lab is a really hard dog. He would just take it and run.

My dog yard is fenced with horse safe small boxwire. It's 5' and I love it. I could also throw a horse in there in a pinch!

if its just an area to let them 'busy' have you coincided a short fence in a small area? - then you can compost easy and not use up your whole yard. If that's the ONLY reason they go into that area then they won't have time to jump/dig.

Now if you want to leave them unsupervised for hours at a time that clearly won't work.

I know- Electric fence around your perimeter and have a safe kennel area that only open for their collars! Like the doggy door radio collars that lock to keep vermin and other dogs out? Have that area (fenced with kennel) the only place for food and water besides inside the house - best if it also provides the best cold/hot shelter too-.

Then you can just get one of those 12*12 covered fence kennels and the electric system and a doghouse and an auto water (heated if need be) ... and you can train 'kennel up' as a command- never when they are in trouble so they go there to feel safe!

We used 6 ft welded wire fencing ( like this... http://www.tractorsupply.com/fencing/welded-wire-fencing/welded-wire-72-in-x-100-ft--3626504 ) with T posts ( like this... http://www.tractorsupply.com/fencin...ded-t-post-6-1-2-ft-1-25-lbs-per-foot-3609120 ). You can also use wood posts with the welded wire.
We mapped out where the dogs area will be off the house. Sunk the posts, and put up the welded wire. It was pretty inexpensive, and has held up very well so far ( we were fence installing noobs

) . Last winter we had an enormous amount of snow. It's survived huge wind storms as well.

We thought about the electric fence option, but we have one dog who it wouldn't phase one bit to go thru it. Like someone else mentioned above...Electric fences are great for keeping your dogs in, but not other dogs or predators out. We also have a large amount of deer that track thru our property. Our dogs were used to having a fenced yard, and we felt the temptations for them would probably be too great. So, we felt putting a fenced area up was probably the best option in the end.

We want a smallish area for them to go potty and blow some steam off. They are in the house mostly and they have a kennel outside. I really want to be able to just open the door and let them out and not have to walk them to the kennel with a newborn. They have full run of four acres when im out with them. How big of an area do you think i should go for? 25x25ft or bigger?
