As much as I hate saying it, I agree with your Dad on this one. Reading through the thread, I was actually considering trying to gently suggest this same course of action. I know it's hard, but sometimes the biggest act of love is to let go..... Two duck dinners, nobody is lonely or stressed, they go to their happy place together and you can start over when you are ready.

We all have our own ideas on things. Also, since the OP had stated that their dad has already laid down the law on the subject, it isn't only practical to me to suggest this, it is the right and respectful course of action for me to agree with their parent. It seemed like common sense to me anyway, kudos to this parent for posessing such a rare trait.

Two ducks culled for this, not one. Misinformation has little to do with it, I believe that one should respect their parents. No hard feelings.

Anyway, let's hope this change of feed works, if the OP is going that route first! One can only wonder at the less visible damage the feed has caused that second duck as well.

I just mean change their feed. Purina flock raiser is well balanced for both ducks . No need to add protein to the feed,just take away the layena ,replace it with flock raiser and make sure they have plenty of water.

I honestly can not believe the comments on here that didn't just disagree with parent but insulted him! Maybe it was other children and not ADULTS saying such things! Just shaking my head!

@ThatOneFarmGirl786 I know this is hard, I had to cull my lame legged duck. She was using her beak to scoot it was horrible. When raising and caring for animals it sometimes means doing the unpleasant things as well. You have two ducks-correct? You fed them both the same feed-correct? Do they both have lamed legs-no! You did your best, you obviously care so this isn't "Your fault" or your parents, he could have stumbled and injured it, nobody knows for a fact it was the food. You need to now do what's best for your duck. You are the only one that can answer that..well you AND your parents! Take care. And, keep us posted!

Change of diet and trying liquid B complex from TSC cattle dept. will say injectable but peel the foil and give him 1ml 2x a day over a tasty treat. His feet aren't ever going to be normal but if your wanting to help him and not cull try this also before you decide different. Def get him off layer. He may also have gout from too much calcium and it's affecting his kidneys. Wishing you the best here.

You've got to stop using those pellets! Get some of that B-complex that Castportpony said to get and get Purina Flock Raiser instead because it's good for all ducks, not just male or female.

This is the b-complex. For just him put 1 ml on something he will eat like watermelon, tomatoes, meal worms. Its the same thing but they changed the label.

This food will be good for him.

@ThatOneFarmGirl786 Your situation may be reversible and depends on a lot of factors. Ducks require higher levels of niacin, lysine and meth as well as protein and no where near the level of calcium in the layer feed. He's going to need Vitamin E, B12 and selenium as well as higher levels of protein. If you can't get a proper feed quickly, giving him canned pink salmon or mackerel with a hard boiled egg yolk can help. Raw Beef liver will help as well if you don't have the fish.

And yes, integrating new ducks is not really different than integrating new chickens. Same methods all work.
