Cayenne pepper will not keep your hens warm, it produces no warmth. It activates the same sensors in the body that sense heat, which is why it feels warm to you, but it isn't actually warm. It's harmless to birds because they don't taste the spice, the spice evolved to repel mammals.
Also, hens don't stop laying in winter because it's cold, they stop laying because of the light change.
Do not give your birds dairy, they can't digest it. It's bad for them.
If any sort of pest or parasite is causing harm to your animals, you go straight for the chemical solution. The one exception is scaly leg mites- MINOR infestations can be treated with vaseline first. Major ones should always get a chemical remedy. Any other parasite, if it shows up on your birds, kill it off and kill it off fast. You don't want "natural" here, because animals in nature die of parasites all the time.
This also goes for animals with fleas. Ask any vet, they'll tell you that animals can and do die because their owners tried to treat their fleas with "natural" remedies that didn't work.
We buried Cleatus this morning under his favorite tree. Everyone else is fine and I have fans going on EVERYONE, including my rabbits. My meat chicks are absolutely loving the fan and are sitting right in front of it!! Same with all the baby buns! Does anyone know if chickens can eat darkling beetles? They are just the adult version of mealworms and I raise them and I was just wanting to know if I could give them some as a little treat.
Oh no! I’ve been following and hoping for the best for Cleatus. I’m so sorry! He’s gone....
