I NEED HELP!!!! The gnats are killing my birds!!

I feel so sad and worried right now! The gnats are covering my birds and driving them insane and I now have three birds that are sickly. I put vanilla water on them all the time and even spray it in their run. It doesn’t work!! Right now I am feeding the sick ones milk and electrolytes and am keep them warm. Is their anything else I can do? Is there anything I can put on them to keep the gnats off? These are my show birds and also my babies and I love them so much I just don’t know what to do. Last time they were this bad I was in like second grade. Please help!!

Gnats have been awful this year! Several members have lost large groups of birds overnight to them this year! I'm so sorry you're struggling with them

Mosquito netting draped over the coop will help. Several people reported keeping a fan running near the roost was also helpful as the gnats can't settle in the moving air.

Thank you! My poultry club assistant leader has lost a bunch of peachicks and Peabirds this year and and it’s just bad. I will try the mosquito netting.

Can you try bathing your chickens? And while your chickens are not in the coop, try spraying them with a mixture of water/ and dish soap or baking soda/ vinegar. Gnats are also supposed to not like pepperminty smells. Try Googling 'how to get rid of gnats'. Sounds like you can use hydrogen peroxide.

Okay, to keep the population down treat your yard and area near your coop with a permethrin based spray; it seems during gnat season this may have to be done a few times too keep the population down.

Also, scrambled eggs and nutridrench for sick chicks that have been swarmed.

Chickens do like scrambled egg, my Rhode chicks did! But be sure not to add any seasoning.

Any brand permethrin based product will work well. It's labeled for use in chickens and no egg withdrawal needed. Found in the equine section. This is ready to use but also sale concentrates. Can also be used on walls and such.

Recommend rooster booster brand poultry cell OR poultry nutri drench to help speed recovery.
