I NEED HELP!!!! The gnats are killing my birds!!

Thank you all so much! I’ve got a dentist appointment in town so I’ll stop by a few places and pick this up!

Nutridrench is in poultry and permethrin spray is usually in horse section.

The outdoor spray you can get at a home depot or Wal-Mart but just make sure it's permethrin based!

Good luck, both with shopping and the...*shudders*...dentist

Ha ha! It’s only a cleaning but I could hear the drill in the other room the entire time... I am now waiting on my sisters to get done and then we will be off!

Thanks for the tag Wyorp Rock!

Oh my. What if I have cats? One of which with kittens?

Thats a sticky situation! I am so sorry your dealing w this :hugs i actually Just talked to the vet Again this morning and didnt learn anything new. I had one of my hens sent off for necropsy 2 months ago and it was confirmed toxemia killed her. Thats the result of poison in their saliva when they bite.

The suggestions youve recieved are exactly what i had to do to save my birds. I sprayed my yard 10 times in two months and the bugs are still out there but no more losses since very first treatment. Do mama cat and kittens live outside? If so is there anyway to coop them up so u can protect the your flock? I have two outdoor cats who seem unaffected but nursing kittens would probly be the most susceptible. Still id want to spray if at all possible.

The scrambled egg and nutridrench is how i saved one of my hens. No appetite for feed but the treat would keep Something in her body. So lethargic she barely stood up for 3 days a minor miracle she pulled through. Her sister was the only large fowl bird i lost and then 41 quail. Using the permethrin saved the rest of my flock and vanilla only worked a few hrs in a pinch. I am sure i would have lost more large fowl if they hadnt been able to free range and escape the nasty things. Other people say vanilla air fresheners and im on the verge of adding that to my arsenal, im so sick of these bugs.

This morning the vet said i could send in a few bugs so they can be identified by a parasitoigist but that theyre sure what came off my hen is def buffalo gnats. So i will take their word thats what these are and i was concerned they may be a diff strain because i was told once it warms up theyd go away and theyre still here. Still swarms when i miss a treatment after its rained or the grass is cut. Still a battle situation ongoing 2 months. We discussed maybe its because of all the shade areas avalible around the two bayous and property near me, one to the north and one to the south. Maybe.

Regardless of using chemicals and my battle id put up a fan on your flock like ten minutes ago. Thats the best fast relief the bugs cant fly in the "wind" of a fan. Keep doing what your doing with your survivors and my heart goes out to you.
