I need help with my baby chick

Earlier today, I found a chick crying. It seems very small but it can walk. I think it was looking for its mom. So i look for a hen and put the chick with the one that had chicks. After that the hen started poking it so i was scared and I quickly took it back. Now that its 8pm my mom put the chick with a hen and im scared that the little chick may get hurt and it makes me sad. Is it normal for a chick to get picked by a hen?

Do you have several hens with young babies? If you’re not sure who the chick’s mom is you could wait till dark and slip her under a hen with chicks near the same age/size. Most mother hens will accept other babies up to a few days old, especially if you sneak them in. You do have to watch for the baby getting pecked and rejected but I bet your mom knew what she was doing.

Yea she does. She took care of chicken for atleast 10 years. And thats exactly what she did .Im just worried about the chick and I have school and dont know if the hen will notice. Thanks for the advice by the way.
