I need info on hatching my own eggs

I have Cochin hen she has laid four eggs. How can I hatch them myself? Can I put them under a red heat lamp inside my house?

Are your eggs fertile? You can check this by cracking one open and looking at the white dot on the yolk if it’s a dot then not fertile if it’s a bullseye it’s fertile. You can make your own incubator using a light bulb, a Tupperware container with a sponge with water, styrofoam cooler (you’ll need to make holes for the light bulb and for ventilation). You’ll need a couple thermometers and hydrometers (don’t forget to calibrate!). You’ll need to turn the eggs a few times a day. There are some really good hatching threads on here. Maybe someone can drop a link. My phone is finicky about it aha.

There's more to it than just heat. You need either an artificial or natural incubator. And fertile eggs.

Welcome to BYC. Very likely a Cochin hen will go broody and incubate her own eggs. Incubation is somewhat more complicated than just 'a red heat lamp'.
