I need so opinions on making a tough decision (for me atleast)

Peacocks are VERY noisy. Ducks are only messy when you have them in the brooder. After that they figure it out. We have a pond and the ducks and chickens are together.

PS the pond is not deep enough to drown the chickens. And they all stay out of it except my stupid silkie roo. I finally had to move him to the OEG pen. He would stand neck deep in the center of the pond for hours. Idiot.

I understand Peacocks are noisy, but I

I am still not sold on ducks ethier. I am hoping to search some forums and decide. I might even go with an Emu. Who knows?

Emu's will put you in the poor house. They eat like a horse.

I keep Call Ducks, "Bantam Mallards". I keep 1 Drake to 5 Hens in a 14 x 20 and 10' tall Pen.
They are messy with the water but as for the open pen area I just rake 1 month.
Now these Ducks are Bantams so differant size duck bigger pen area.

Didn't you say you had 1500 for an avery? All you need is a well built frame covered in Poultry Wire (1") Cut 5 gal buckets 6"to 8" deep for water Put a brick in them
Feed in large shallow containers ( bucket lids Also feed on the ground. Cost around 500 t0 700. Go to flea markets and livestock sales with the rest. You can pick up pairs and trios at a good price.

I saw you already made your choice but couldn't help putting in my .02

I have had peacocks and currently have ducks. Peacocks are VERY loud so if you have neighbors within a 1/4 mile they will wonder why you are strangling cats. On the upside they are beautiful and can be tamed. We had one in particular named Pete who loved hotdogs and was your best friend if you brought some out. He was a straggler as a chick and raised in the house for several months. If you plan to free range them at all you may have a problem keeping them at home. They will also roost in your tallest tree. We have one that visits us from the small zoo nearby. He takes off with the wild turkeys every spring. Last year he was on my roof. My dogs were not amused

My ducks, I wouldn't trade them for anything....We don't have a pond either, but 2 kiddie wading pools ($8 at dollar general right now) and they are emptied and refilled every evening. They don't fly - mine aren't muscovies or mallards - in fact I don't think that could get over 2' unless they really tried. They are relatively quiet and very sweet.

Good luck with your peafowl

How about swans? Or geese? I know they are poop machines but the beauty of them are something else.

I've had peacocks and didn't have them around very long due to my inexperience. Mom didn't appreciate them flying up to the second floor and the male did his call in the window, scaring the beejezus out of Mom from bed LOL! They are beautiful and easy to care for than geese (we had a pair).

Just to make sure evryone knows, I haven't made my mind up yet. I am looking into getting peacocks, swans/geese, ducks, emus or more chickens. I can't afford to put alot of money into any of them, soo..... Any ideas on which one to get now?
