i wouldn't bathe them. they will clean off themselves. well you are going to be a great foster mom for these chicks. i am glad your teach let you bring them home. have fun with them. have a great weekend. check in and let us know if we can help anytime. God Bless you! Robin

how old are the chicks. you need to be sure the temp is correct for their age

just keep them fed, and watered good. What are you feeding them?

they are about 3 and half 4 weeks old i am feeding them oats hard boiled egg and a little yogurt they have been lookin really sickly so i was glad i could get them home to feed them something other than corn meal which is all they have been getting my friend is going to buy chick started feed for them. they seem under nurished...... is there anything else i should be doing? its about 75 in there cage is that ok?

temp seems fine for that age. if they huddle up with each other and not move around a lot they may be a little chilly. corn meal is not good for them, there is no nutritional value for a baby. get the starter feed as soon as possible they need the nutrition.

i will be gone most of the day today, so i will check on you tonight. have fun with them. robin

ok if they r doing that should i just move the lamp closer??? thank u so much for all of the help i appreciate it so much! and i'll get the seed for them asap! thank you so much!!! they are are so cute and they seem to be doin pretty good they have become a lot more active now that i have givin them the egg yogurt and oats they have been acting so much better!

Eggs are deffinately a good substitute for now but they do need the chick feed you are getting. They need all the vitamins and nutrients in the feed. The oats and corn have almost no value at all. The teacher should be ashamed for not reading up on how to care for them. They are a living thing and MUST be cared for propperly! You are doing such a great job!!! I am so glad you are there to take care of them. They should clean them selves. If not you can use a warm wash rag to gently clean them up. The pen should be around 80 for that age. But as long as they are not staying in a big pile all the time they should be fine. They will tell you if they are to hot or cool. If they stay away from the light and are panting, they are too warm. If they stay huddled up all the time other then sleeping, they are too cold. You are doing a great job! I am so happy you get to keep them. even if it is only for the weekend. We need pics if you can! Have fun! You are doing GREAT!!!

Good Luck and God Bless!

Well there is a lot this teacher should be ashamed about especially the fact that these chicks are not being properly cared for at all! thanks for all of the help i am trying my best there sister died this morning she was at another girls house she died the same way my chick died do u think its something in the bedding or just not taken care of the right way??? she was really sad when her chick died

thank u for all of the help! my teacher and i are going to have a talk monday thats for sure

It really sounds like their health problems are from poor nutrition. The scrambled eggs are great, but as others have said a good chickstarter is the best diet for them. With the eggs, oats, etc. they do need some grit so they can digest it, sand will do in a pinch. Just put some (dry) in a container for the and they pick up what they need. You're doing great!
