reading 65 now.....thank you again
do not have a clean spray bottle.will get one tomorrow

What is this with spraying or misting the eggs? I have been reading this in a few posts the past few days. I don't think I would try that at all. Actually, I am quite careful to avoid getting water on the eggs when I add water to the bator.

good gravy, I just read on another thread that the egg cartons I put in may cause the chicks to get burned because it makes them to close to the heater..............
Any thoughts from those who have experience.................this is really getting stressful.thought I was being so carefulThank you........I see I have much to learn..but sure do not want to cause harm in the process.

Actually you are right, I did not spray the eggs directly. I did spray the inside top of my incubator, at least that is where I was aiming. I am sure that the mist landed on the eggs. I had 9 out of 10 hatch. Call it beginners luck, or maybe dump luck. Ignorance might be bliss is my case. It didn't seem to hurt anything, the one that didn't hatch seemed to have stopped developing along the way. But you might be right, but it did keep the humidity up where I wanted it.

I do know that they say it might be necessary to mist duck eggs, so I figured it wouldn't hurt chicken eggs. Maybe that was wrong

But it worked for me...this time.

It really is a steep learning curve. Can you point me to that thread? I had mine in cartons, but I had a lightbulb for heat as it was homemade. I took them out of cartons for hatching. I am not sure what the are referring to.

I hatched mine in the lg still air and used the egg carton method along with a piece of rubber shelf liner over the wire rack for lock down. I had the eggs laying on their sides for the first 18 days, but put them in cut down cartons to hatch in and it worked great.

As far as your humidity problem goes, I was wondering if you could put a humidifier in the room with the bator. I haven't done this, but I think it would help.

I only use my LG still air for a hatcher! I placed as many small tub with sponges as i can fit in bottom. I then place 4 small sponges ontop of the wire: under the 4 tiny vent holes. I use a syringe and some tiny tubing to wet them through the vent holes. I also use the tubing to refill the tubs in the bottom. It takes some practice but That is how I do it. I have only lost 1 that made it to lock down and he drown! He pipped on bottom.

Good luck and God Bless!

ADDED: P.s. I hatched out 57 in a 6 set staggerd hatch!!! If you have to open the bator; Take it into a HOT steamy Bathroom! I crank a small room heater and the HOT shower. When filled with steam I turn off the shower and leave the heater on! I look like I was In the shower! LOL BUt I have not lost 1 yet!!!!

I'm hatching now and have been having problems with my humity, however I'm not having any problems with them hatching. I sprayed the eggs a little bit not much. They seem to be doing fine. I have 6 chicks that have hatched with no issues. Now I'm just playing the waiting game for all the others. Hope everything goes ok for you!!
