So I know that I was duped, and I'm ok with it, but I was just hoping you guys could tell me if this is, in fact, a hen.
I realized immediately that this was NOT a four month old auracauna, but I had driven an hour and a half for her and I couldn't leave her there. As long as she's a hen, I'm ok with raising another round of chicks. At least I can make sure she eats organic feed and will be tame.

Any guesses at her age and actual breed would be great, too. She's tiny, maybe the size of quart mason jar.

If you want different pictures, let me know.

And why doesn't she have feathers on her neck??

I can't seem to get this one to rotate. Sorry.

Are five toes good or bad?

I'm going back tomorrow to get a crested polish chick (that she also claims is 4 months old, but I can feather sex that one.) and if this isn't a pullet I'll have to bring this little girl back. I already had to get rid of my rooster and I'm not dealing with that again.

Thanks for all of your help. I really, really appreciate it.

Well he is definitely a mix of possibly an EE (beard, coloring) and Faverolles (pink feathered legs, five toes). It's kind of hard to tell from the angle, is the comb a pea comb or a single comb?

I think it's a single comb, but I'm not sure- I've had it for two weeks and last week the comb and face started turning red. There was hardly a comb at all when I got it. I know our Barred Rock didn't turn red for several months. I'll try and catch it to get a better picture.

I think that looks like a pea comb. Single combs, by the time they turn pink/red, have usually grown quite a bit.

In EE's, red leakage in the wing/saddle area is a sure sign of a male. This guy has got red leakage all over him. Just the first picture was enough for me to determine the sex. Not to mention, his fluff shows how young he is, but his face is already turning red. The saddle and hackle feathers will come later.

Thanks. I needed arguing points when I take him back.

The young girl is SO confidant that they are hens and are about to start laying, and it's such a long drive for me and I'm way out on their property, it makes me nervous.

Maybe I'll tell her it started crowing. Since it's four months old and all.

That chick looks a lot younger than 12 weeks, more like 5-6 weeks judging by the down on his neck. Since he has a pea comb I would definitely say he is a EE Faverolle cross.
