I need some help....

So last week I noticed something black on my roosters wattles thought it may have been poop and went on about my business, today I picked him up because I still noticed it... it’s beyond awful looking. Not sure what it is and I feel sooo sooo bad. I immediately went inside washed it & put some antibiotic cream on it. It looks like a burn? We have a fire pit outback that I often burn wood/wood shavings from coop in.. he has never been around it while it was going on, but I’m wondering if he went in there looking for food when it was still slowly going? What do you guys thibk? I love my boy so much

& it’s only on that one side? Other then that he has been doing great, he eats, drinks and of course try’s to hump his ladies..
