I would go to the store and buy one of those permanent pegs that go into the ground, along with the Giant link chain, hook that dog up to one side, hubby up to the other, and put a coop around them. Can you say "punishment". Oh, don't forget to sprinkle a little bit of chick grit in there for the both of them. So sorry about your silkie, and they are so not mean. Darn Dog, and I really love dogs.

Sounds like your DH is really sorry for his insensitivity, and is trying to make amends. He knows he can't undo what has happened, but is trying in his own way to make it better. I think it might do you good to get some more silkies, and who cares if you go and start crying? You wouldn't need to feel embarrassed or silly at all -- you are grieving a loss. As for not getting a white one, that would be your choice of course, but if you did get a white one, maybe you could honor Cotton's memory -- name it Q-Tip or something like that.

My eye's were watering through the thread until I got to this one. It's such a great idea that I hope OP considers it. To the OP,

for your loss.

Go. Look. Get. Give your husband the chance he needs to make up for not understand it all. (Maybe he gets it now). You still have to live with him anyway, might as well take the opportunity to make it better again. Maybe even let the DD pick one out to be hers to make up for this happening on her birthday. Not all men are all bad, ya gotta give the good ones a chance to fix it when they do bad.

Qtip!!! Definitly! I went, it turned out the man is a bycer! I got two white ones, a little fizzle roo and a splash. So one is Definitly QTIP! You will have to wait for pics tho cuz i cant upload them here from my phone. I didnt cry either. So i guess it ends well.

Sorry to hear your hubby was so insensitive at first but glad he came to his senses. See my post from last night. No questions asked, my hubby killed his own dog when she got one of my girlz. I did not even have to ask or demand he do it--he did it of his own accord and I heard about this all after the fact. He even picked up one of my other girls who was crying and soothed her and apologized. He IS a keeper.

I haven't finished reading the rest of the posts yet but I would say yes, at least at first get another color of silkie. That helps. I had a cream-colored dog and had to have him put down several years ago (spleen cancer). I got another dog 2 weeks later, had the same type of silhouette but is pure black. That helped me separate the experiences and corral the grief into the cream colored dog and funnel new joy into the black dog. I named the black dog "Skye" because in the dark skies of my grief, a dark dog brought me the blue sky of hope (kind of the idea of a midnight sky since he is black). Please feel free to name your new baby after my dog. And I am so sorry for your loss.

So happy for you! Q-tip!! So cute! Have fun with your new chickens! And God bless our guys, they don't always understand our emotions but they normally realize even if they don't get it they don't want us to be upset....
