I need your opinion on feed. Please

I feed Purina, and I've been happy with it.

Mine get to forage as well, so they can find their animal protiens in the yard. Haven't seen a tick on the dog since we got dem der chickens!

I'm new to chickens and have been feeding the Dumor 16% feed at TSC mixed with Food Grade DE. I read somewhere that the recommended mixture is 1#DE to 50# feed. From what I understand, that should help with any internal and external parasites as well as general internal health with DE's trace minerals, right?
(Can't free range yet- building a "limited run" tomorrow though!

Now that archery season is over, my fiance is going to make me a chicken tractor that I can move around. I can't wait!

But back to my question, if I switched to the Purina, what differences could I expect to see in my flock? Would it make that much difference to switch?

Our flock is different. Once we accidentally bought Dumor Layer Pellets, and they refused to eat them. They are very happy on crumbles and I like the Dumor.

I did hear that TSC is not going to be producing Dumor anymore once the end of the year comes? If so, we're going to have to go to another feed store to get something that they will like.

I ask the manager of TS the last time I was there and they said they are going to stop selling Dumor. So I got the last 2 bags and mixed the Purina with it. Their now eating the Purina with no problem but it does cost more.

My chicks eat less Purina Flock Raiser than they did Dumor starter. I take that to mean that they simply need less of the higher quality feed.

When I switched my adults from Dumor layer to Purina Layena - I mixed the last of the old bag with some new Layena. Once they figured it out, they started throwing out the Dumor on the ground. I knew the difference because the old Dumor was crumbles and the new Layena is in pellets.

Dumor feed has an odd whangy smell to it. Layena feed smells good, kinda reminds me of fresh bread.

I like Purina better, and my birds free range or chicken tractor around the yard, so they get bug/animal protein that way.

When I switched to Purina (from Dumoor) egg production went up 10%, their feathers stopped falling out and the young chicks had better growth rates and body condition. . . . .

Mo wonder they are not selling DUMOOR any more !
