Hello All
I’ve had Chickens for about 10 years now. I never had a problem with cats. They would walk through the gate and watch the chickens, but never bothered them at all. In the last week. I had two different cats trying to go after the chickens one was a stray and the rooster kind of scared him away, and then I found the poor thing dead. In my other side of my property broke my heart. He was disinboweled. Then I watch the neighbor’s cat go up and down the gate then squeeze through the gate went over by the chickens and the rooster was there. I have seven chickens and a rooster. my husband went out there and yelled at the cat so he jumped the gate. I have no idea who killed the other cat anybody else having problems like this?

I'm not going to comment on the cats and chickens, you are looking at them and I'm not. As far as the dead one, bobcat, fox, and coyote and others will all kill and eat cats if they can catch them. If you are not in the USA it could be other critters. But in the USA if a cat was disemboweled without parts being being eaten I'd suspect a dog. Dogs will kill for fun. My dog killed a skunk by disemboweling it.

Thank you for your information and yes, we are in the USA in N. Florida

If you have a dog it may have actually killed the aggressive cat to protect your flock. Even dogs that get along with your cats like they are best friends will sometimes kill strays, especially of they show intent to harm what the dog considers yours.

Feral cats will attack a flock especially if you have smaller chickens. Never had any hurt my chickens though.I have standard size chickens no bantams. I've never found a dead cat but my dogs don't kill cats.

My dog never never runs around by herself. She’s always with us or in the front yard with a tall fence.

And she has chased chickens and chased a cat not that cat but she corners it and then she lets it go. I know it’s bad for the animals cause they’re about to have a heart attack poor little things and I try never let that happen.

She is beautiful! 😍 Sounds like notnso great around the animals though. 😅
If she is contained then apparently not her, so idk what killed the cat. 🤔 Roosters can get pretty vicious and surprisingly efficient at killing, especially if their hens are threatened, and if he did it would be evicerated and not eaten. That seems unlikely though from what you said happened. 🤷‍♀️

The rooster was locked up in the coop when that happened so it wasn’t him. I don’t know what’s wrong with this rooster, but he tries to go after my husband again and he kind of goes after me, but I turn around and point my finger at him and Just you better not try it and I have a water blaster gun with water and sometimes I use that I’ve only had a spray once. this is the first rooster I’ve ever owned. The only reason I got him is to protect the hens
