i officially SUCK at trying to kill snakes....

I have rolled over on a scorpion in the middle of the night and been stung on the stomach.

It hurt about like a honey bee sting.

That was a South Carolina mountain scorpion. I don't know about western cowboy scorpions.

Snakes don't bug me much, except I don't want to be close to poisonous ones.

But a scorpion?...........on my bed?.................I don't think I'd ever be able to sleep again.

We have rattlesnakes, but we haven't seen one in 7 years. Our coop was built up off the ground cuz I told DH I'd better not reach in for an egg and get a rattlesnake. And we have TONS of black widows. Suckers are everywhere around here. I have to always check the kids Tonka toys for them.

Hmmmm , I am for keeping the snake around and making the coop safer for both the chickens and snake, here is why.

Bull snakes eat other snakes, there is a 4 year old that will eventually play outside.
The Bull snake will not do any harm if it should bite the child, just wash well with soap and water, anti bacterial soap and neosporin will do the trick
not saying any one is lax here just saying you get a rattler in , they can stike and seriously injure a child that age.
chances are with the bull snake around there wont be as many rattlers to worry about.
The one thing I agree on is if the dogs are not sounding on a fox coming in, or sleep through such an attack I would be concidering finding them a new home, IF they are outside at night,
IF they are inside at night thats a different story, still they should have alerted to something wrong.
