I found the info on taking out the rotator on the 18th day. I did that and today was day 20 in the incubator. I saw a pip so i opened it to show my kids. I wanted to see how long from pip to hatch on the internet when I came across the whole dont open the incubator!!! So do you think I killed everything in my incubator?

Probably not. If you just opened it, took out the egg and shut it, you most likely didn't lose that much humidity. Maybe you'd want to consider getting a little table top incubator with the see-through top so they can watch the whole process? I know, I know, the hatch rates probably aren't as good, but it sure is fun to watch them hatch.

Thank you for allieviating my concern. We have a bator with a see through top and started with 13 eggs. On day 18 candling we had 11 that were still good and 2 that were quitters. We are just excited as this is our first hatch and my 7 year old is really into it.

I wont open till we start getting chicks.

I've incubated for many years, and I still get excited. I have been known to sit up all night watching chicks hatch. This year I skipped the incubator and went with a broody. Her eggs started hatching today, and it's making me just a little crazy not knowing how many have hatched out. I'm going to try to be patient and wait, though.

Yeah im hoping we have a broody hen next year. I also bought my son 6 silkie chicks so he can have eggs and such. Bought them a little coop that i need to make bigger quicker than i thought

Well i looked through the top and the one that pipped has pipped a little further. I have this urge to just open the bator and help it out. I wont do this but i know everyone knows this feeling.

I looked through the top of the bator this morning and I could see the original pip starting to zip out and a second egg started to pip.

I'm going to try to sneak home at lunch and check on them and see if anyone has come out yet.

Wish I had a web cam on them to watch now.

I had 5 chicken eggs in the incubator, and they were due today (Tues.) but three came Sunday! The other 2-- no movement. Temp. dropped a lot after I took the 3 out today (they were in there 2 days, didn't want to wait any longer), but it's back up ok now.

OK all you professionals....how long before I give up on the last 2? I plan to open them anyway to see how much development there was. I candled them on day 14 and everyone looked fine.

So sad about those last two. :(

I went home at lunch and now i have a total of 7 pipping and one that is chirping. My wife said there are more chirpings sounds coming out.

Well just got home and I have 9 pipped and the original pip is still in his shell but he's pepping some. I hope he makes it out. When should I be worried and try to help him out?
