I ordered chicks for the first time...

Frizzlemom, you need to post pics of happy babies to help with all of the stress about the one's still in the mail!

Have you gotten frizzles from ideal before?

Good luck everyone...I'm too chicken, so I'm waiting until spring!

I'm kind of wishing I'd waited until spring now too. It was much warmer out when I ordered them, then in the past few days it's turned really cold.

The high is 41 on Monday, low of 33 and the high is 44 on Tuesday--that's when my chicks will be in the mail! It's probably much colder farther to the west where Ideal is, isn't it?

When my chicks arrived last week from McMurray, there was a note on the top of the box telling the postmaster to call me. I'd also stopped by the post ofc. and told them to call immediately. Our rural postmaster is used to this arrangement so he called me at 5:20 AM. I was expecting the call so just put on my sweats and picked the little ones up. You'd be surprised how many post offices are familiar with the call-about-the-chick-arrival routine.

They're a week old today! All are doing well, except one of the larger ones seems unable to stand for a long period of time. Her little bottom is brown from dragging herself around. I'm wondering if this is a permanent "affliction" or what...any thoughts?

Have fun...

You think your excited now. Just wait until the PO calls you that morning

When I ordered from Ideal it only took a day for my chickies to get to me. I was so pleased. Yes, you pick your chicks up from the PO. When I pick mine up they are chirping like crazy. I put them in the van right infront of the heater vent and they just sit there like they're in a sauna. They love it! Heat, food and water, you've got the basics down. I'm not sure about grit though. I should be getting another order of chicks tomorrow. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your little ones.

Mine came from Ideal too. I have been very happy with them. I ordered all pullets and so far that is what I got!!!

I am beginning to get a very bad feeling about McMurray.

Still no sign of my chicks. *sigh* If I don't get them today, there will be some kind of heck to pay. It's 18 degrees here right now...just how much longer do you think those poor babies can take this???

They're HERE! I take it back. really I do. They are here and it looks like only one of them is questionable as far as energy. Otherwise all of them are hopping and peeping and hopefully happy!

I have to learn patience some day... maybe someday.

Now where are mine? The hatchery is only a little over 3 hours from here yet the post office said they don't have them yet:( I am really hoping they are not frozen solid when I do get them. But it sounds like it is even colder there and yours are fine. Maybe I will get a call here soon. Oh I hope.
