I ordered chicks for the first time...

I will hope right with you. All I can say is that I didn't get the call until I gave up. which isn't the best tactic, but I think it served as "letting go" Depending on what you got, their hatch might have taken awhile. I am still convinced that mine didn't all hatch until yesterday.

The lady on the phone from the hatchery said mine shipped Wed. and I should get them Sat. at the latest but I can't believe it would take that long to get them. The post office lady is nervous too because she doesn't want them to freeze. I need to call the hatchery today and get the tracking number as this is what the post office lady told me but they had already closed for the day by the time I called all the POs around here to find out none of the Post Offices had them yet. I am thinking they might have went to Des Moines first before being sent my way. That's the only way I can see to explain the hold up on them.

The lady told me that mine shipped Wed too, but that she didn't know what time they had finished hatching. All of mine were fine and very warm actually. The whole Wed to Sat thing just doesn't make sense to me either.
I have a kiddo parked in front of the brooder, so I better go let her have some chick time.
Hang in there! *crosses fingers* *says prayer*

I'm really concerned about my chicks getting left somewhere in a post office over Thanksgiving. I tried to call Ideal today to see when I should expect them. Monday is the hatch date, but their site says they ship on Tuesdays. That means they will be cutting it very very close to Thanksgiving on Thursday. I'm hoping they'll ship on Monday instead because of the holiday...I would feel so much better if they told me that. But when I called the recording said they'll be out of the office until Monday!

Everything so far that I have read about Ideal is that people have gotten theirs the day after ship. I wish all the hatcheries would overnight them.
Good luck everyone else still waiting. It's one of the hardest things in the world. and one thing I learned is that the hatchery people are used to being pestered and that I should have written my questions down because I was so nervous I would forget all but the most neurotic ones.

everyone!

Donʻt forget the best thing about Ideal, they donʻt gouge you on the shipping. The total of my add-on charges for small order, partial box plus the per chick charge came to $15.60. The actual postage meter tape on the shipping box said $15.10. Thatʻs a far cry from some dealers who charge you 2 & 3 times the actual shipping charge as their "Postage & Handling" fee. Actually, its additional profit on birds that are often more expensive than Ideal to begin with. The same order from McMurray came to roughly $125 vs $75 for Ideal. Plus in November, Texas is a much warmer spot to ship from than most places.

Well, still no chicks. The lady at McMurray finally admitted my chicks did ship Wed. but they shipped out of Texas and not Iowa like I was thinking. So, had I known that I would have just used Ideal hatchery instead. I am really hoping those chicks make it here alive and not frozen. My local post office is calling all the post offices around looking for that box for me also. We couldn't get a tracking number out of the hatchery which would really have helped in our search for these chicks. I am pretty upset about this and just hope I recieve live chicks in the mail and not dead ones. And, I won't be ordering from them again. I ordered from them thinking it would be easier on the chicks to come from a place closer to me than Texas but they are coming from Texas anyways or so the lady says.

I believe MissPrissy ordered 100 chicks from Mcmurray When she finally got them only a couple were still alive. I think only one survived. I don't know if her remaing chick actually survived as she closed the thread. Hope you got your babies ok.

I am so sorry farmgirlie... mine did arrive from McMurray all fine and seeming healthy so I do hope that you get yours. Saturday is their deadline...And I know they will refund you... I am so sorry...jeez, I hope mine stay healthy... I didn't think McMurray was so bad...I do agree though that they don't have the greatest shipping standards for live birds... their non-live stuff seems to ship fine and even has a confirmation emailed which I never got for the chicks...

I am sure all hatcheries have their bad moments. I know I have read bad things about Ideal too. I just hope you aren't going to suffer from one.

I know I got a confirmation email when my non-live shipped and it arrived like a day after shipping. I still have no word on the chicks besides what they said over the phone. I am sure they are frozen solid somewhere by now:( I am so sad.
