Batting her sister Sheepkit back, Puddlekit fought her way through her siblings to peek out of the nursery. Her eyes locked on the twitching tail of Tanglepelt, who was listening to the clan meeting. Puddlekit couldn't take her eyes off it. She dropped down as if in a trance and slowly stalked towards the tail. back, forth, back, forth.... The tail brought her closer and closer. Ignoring the whimpers of Sheepkit, she wiggled her haunches, and prepared to jump.
NOW!
Puddlekit sprang forward with a ferocious yowl and sunk her sharp thorn-like teeth into Tanglepelt's matted tail. It tasted awful.
Tanglepelt swung around, yowling and furious.
Puddlekit, still attached to his tail, was so surprised that she held on tighter. When his tail hit the ground again, she scuttled off before he could see who had bitten him.
" 'EY!" Tanglepelt growled, "Which one of yeh youngsters went up and bit my tail?!" He looked accusingly at the other kits, who shrunk back into the nursery. Puddlekit snickered from behind a den. She didn't feel good about getting the other kits into trouble, but it was very silly how sneaky she had been! Tanglepelt hadn't even seen her!
Puddlekit slipped back into the nursery, where her mother gave her a stern talking-to. Puddlekit apologized to her siblings, but secretly she was proud of the mischief she had gotten into. What an adventure! She was talking about it for days afterward with Sheepkit.
