The best thing is- one of the neighbors want to start their own flock!

I've put 10 Delaware eggs and 2 Mottled java eggs under my broody chantecler. She went broody last spring too, but didn't do a great job after her chicks hatched, and another chicken stole and raised them. I have high hopes for her this time. My friend wants all the delawares, for eating and for eggs (eventually). Mine went under on the 16th too. best of luck to you all!

I bought a dozen and put them under my broody jersey giant on the 17th. Looks like a bunch of us will be having chicks the 6 and 7th of June.

So, it looks like our eggs made it through the Rapture. Now we can sit back and watch the rest of the process without the impending doom of the Apocalypse hanging over our heads.

I have 25 BLRW in the incubator. I just finished with 3 broody hens. I am so glad they are up and about again. My Black Orpington is such a wonderful hen but I like her out of the nest. They only hatched 4 eggs out of 17 - all together. I usually have better luck with my 1588. I think I might candle just a few to see how it is going.

Saturday Update:
We got some more eggs (this time sired from a favorite roo-our first chicken ever) and put them under Stitch. So far, she hasn't kicked them out. They are 5 days behind the first set of eggs. I hope this will work. I really do. When we went to put the additional eggs under stitch, we candled one more time so that DH and youngest DD could see what Beanie and I were telling them about.

Sunday Update:
The neighbors decided they wanted some chickens too, so they are going to be getting some of these babies.

Hopefully, out of the eggs we set, we will get 4-5 successful hatches.

Ok hatching buddies- how are yours doing?

Monday 05/23 Update:

It appears that Ivory (white rock) has been putting her eggs underneath Stitch. Poor Stitch! I removed Ivory's eggs immediately and did a quick candling on the eggs to hatch. The first set is looking like there is good development. The eggs we put under there Sat night aren't showing anything yet, but we haven't given up hope.
