I reached in for my wallet and found an egg!

I have 2 egg baskets that my boys collect eggs in. The 4 year old is pretty adept at getting them inside. The 2 year old...well that's another story with him and his basket.

But they are good little helpers anyway.

not wanting to be flogged for having this in the wrong post or something......i actually had a chicken behavior question. (Those are funny and i want to hear more) Do people that have lights on in the coop still have sleeping chickens? They still konk out at around 5pm except for one little busy body that greets me in the run and follows me around waiting to be picked up and spoiled with special treats!

Since this is your thread I'll go off topic with you. I have lights on timers in my coop. They turn on at 3 am and turn off at dusk. I don't let the timer go past dark because I don't want any of them down on the ground wandering around when the lights go out. They get used to the time it turns off and pretty soon they are all ready to go sitting on the roost when the lights go out.

I use a basket & that truly helps! My ISA girls lay some mammoth sized eggs & then there are the little bantie eggs. So that is to many to stuff into pockets or even carry. I used to leave them every where too

Gotta have a basket!

When I get inside I wash them & then transfer them to another basket that sits on my kitchen table.

The other day I found a bantie egg that was laid later in the day & put it in my pocket & proceeded to put straw & pine chips in the buck house which is small & you have to lean over & kind of turn your body sideways to even get in the door & I heard a CRUNCH! Oops, the bantie egg broke in my pocket.....lol

I made the mistake of sitting some on a table on my front porch. Apparently Dodger the kitty thought they were new jingle bell toys for him. One good swat and that sucker went sailing. He and his brother Fagin did their best to eat it up for me, but I still had to scrub egg white off the porch.

I too am prone to just stick them in a pocket. So far my luck has held, but I'm starting to look around for an egg basket. Some day they'll all start laying.

I put eggs in my pocket too and the other day I forgot they were in there and bent over into my D'uccle coop and broke both of them INSIDE my pocket! UGH! What a mess. In the washing machine it went.

I have two ice cream buckets hanging to gather eggs. they have become dust collectors instead. we're just so used to bringing them in by the handfull that we have never used them. we just go in the coop, grab the eggs, thank the girls for being so good (even if they peck at us for taking their eggs) and off we go. I think that at this point if any of us did use the buckets, that we would forget all about them and leave them in the coop or somewhere. I don't know if we can be reprogrammed at this point!

What I want to know is that all of you that found eggs in your pockets at the store did they take them for legal tender?

You can always use an old Easter Basket for collecting eggs, I don't think the Bunny will mind!

But then again, the hen just might!
