Thanks for all the replies people! This has been very educational. Just remember to be polite. We all have our opinions.
Just for the record I do not condone killer dogs. Wild animals are not killers. Depending on their status wild predators should not automatically be shot. I do not want to meet my maker and be held responsible for the extinction of a species. Also my decendents will not be very proud of me if I let something go extinct.

My own dogs killed my chickens and my pets for the pure joy of it after having spent four years together/next to each other in what we thought was safe and secure housing and pet area. I've felt the sting of embarrassment for having my pets, those vulnerable babies, be killed, by my own dogs, when I've shared the story of what happened.

The price is one I pay every day, emotionally. I cant sue myself, or blame my dogs, they did what dogs do. I'm the one that thought they were living in Harmony, I'm the one that thought everyone was safe, and the fences were secure, I am supposed to be the higher thinker, the responsible adult, their protector.

We were angry at what happened, but we rehomed our dogs with the information that they are joy killers. One of them, June, came back from 12 miles away, a month later, during a snowstorm. She wont leave, so we called it a truce, cause we cant rehome her. I dont trust her, and we're back to square one. Next step, if I suspect she's even looking at my birds, is Euthanasia. (We're not certain she was a part of the killing) Its been almost a year, and no more losses due to her.

I agree wyliefarms, you are right

the owner was neglectful and wasnt responsible..she caused her dogs to die. If only they properly trained the dogs this would have never happend..its sad to see these kind of things happen. I feel bad for the people that died from this, and the dogs who needs to be put down because of idiot owners

i wouldnt blame the dog,, it is TOTALLY the owners fault,, but im also not gonna teach everybody elses animals NOT to kill my belongings. if an axe murderer was in your house,, would ya blame his upbringing, and try to talk sense into him?
and i wouldnt shoot every dog that came in my yard, the shooting comes after a threat is made.

I don't understand the attitude of "its only a chicken".
My livestock (chickens) have the same protection that any other livestock has.
Would you say..." it was only your prize bull" ????

I take NO pleasure in having to shoot your ( insert species here), but I'm dang sure not going to let your (insert species here) kill my livestock!!

Keep it tied, penned, locked up or whatever it takes and I won't shoot it.

, i know we cant teach everyones dogs...heck..as i said, i bet mine would wreck havoc on them chickens if they got a chance to...and, in NO way do i feel that these dogs or any dogs should be allowed to run loose..in my opinion, these dogs NEED to be brought to the Ridgeback rescue, where thay are experts on this breed..and they will know weather to put them down or re-home them with a responsible owner....but this idiot owner should not have them anyomre..that much i know...Peace, Wendy
