I have a chick that's about 9 weeks and she seems to be paralyzed. She was squatty on the ground, but is chirping, eating and drinking normally and "acting" healthy. This just started yesterday. I took her out of the coop as I thought the other birds would peck her to death (or crush her walking over her) Her legs are pulled up tight under her and I tried to get her to stand, but she wouldn't. I thought Marek's at first, but she didn't seem to show any other symptoms. Not sure what it could be.

I'm afraid I don't have an answer...... Any possible moldy feed ingestion? Possibly gotten stepped on? For both I would give vitamins, add vitamin E gel cap down beak at least once a day, scrambled eggs, keep separate from others in a warm soft area and see if it improves in a few days... I have good luck with vitamin E and injurys. Best Wishes

Is she curling her toes under?

I have seen this before in two of my hens. Both had a seperate illness.

The first time I saw it my hen was very sick I nursed her back to health with vitamins, treats, & lots of TLC. I later lost her months later to Internal Laying.

The other one had a respiratory illness but refused to stand and walk - we had to cull.

I think unfortunatley this can happen in chickens for many different reasons. i would say to seperate her from the others, keep her warm, & quiet. Vitamins a must since a deficiency be part of the problem and if it is not atleast it can help with healing.

This is not a diagnosis. I had a pullet act in the same behavior for 3 days last year. Eventually she did pull through and walked with a hitch in her giddie-up for another 3 months. I did not fully understand what it was. She would not just act paralyzed but would close her eyes. It did pass. I made her eat a bunch of yogurt and fed her scrambled eggs as mentioned earlier. I don't know what it is for you but keep her separate and warm with attention to feed and water and hope that it works out well.
