I Recovered a Chick Taken Off by a Hawk; Now What

dribble some of the electrolyte water along its beak...do this ever 15 minutes or so if necessary until it starts drinking on its own.

The chick, now named "Lucky", will survive. He is up walking, eating and drinking. Still too early to move him out with the other but I did let him outside for a little while today.

Thanks to everyone who offered help and advice!

On a side note, I've decided to continue letting my chicks free-range. Hopefully, they have learned to stay closer to cover and keep a watchful eye towards the sky.

That's wonderful!

I would keep him seperate from the other birds until he is COMPLETELY healed. Don't need the noisy flock pecking at the poor guy's wounds.

I'm so glad you were able to save him. I bet that hawk was pretty dissapointed..

So sorry to hear that your chick died - especially after all your hard work.

I know it's too late for your little one but for others, Rescue Remedy (Bach Flower Remedies) is wonderful for all animals & people, in the case of shock, nerves or fright. It comes in a little bottle with a dripper and you put a few drops on the tongue, in water or on the skin.
It's very subtle but it works brilliantly.
