I reject your facts... Or, my how time changes opinions.

We've put bird netting around all the newly seeded areas... around and over. Apparently, gold finches really like grass seed. At $5/#, I'm not fond of footing their grocery bill. Um... hubby is not exactly enjoying it. Nope. Uh-uh. :rantHis standards are quite different than mine. He likes a nice looking lawn. With all of the weeds mowed to the same height, so it kind of resembles a lawn. All of the flowers neatly tucked into their beds, with not so much of a wisp of those plants trespassing onto the freshly mowed lawn. The man climbs onto his mower and enters the "zone". If it can be mowed down without beating the blades up too severely, it gets mowed down. Rhubarb, high bush blueberries, zucchini, flowers have all succumbed to "Mr. Mows It All" b/c they were not tucked behind a fence or rock. I once caught him trying to mow down a cherry tree. Me.... I like soft edges, with flowers spilling out of their beds into lawn and walk ways. I plant the garden right up to the edges. We have not yet killed each other b/c we put a fence around the garden! I've heard it said that strong fences make good marriages!

We must chat gardening again... I would love to see pictures of things you are working on this summer.

Human history is one long story of learning new things, and putting old theories to bed. Ten years ago the average spod couldn't get easy access to research. Even if they could, there was little out there.

Ten years ago we had no way to know the mechanism behind DEs action on invertebrates, or how different grades have different effects, or how even minor nutrient deficiencies can have huge effects on egg production and growth rates.

Now there is a huge body of information out there, including an additional ten years of experience for thousands of poultry keepers. People are less inclined to simply believe what they read today (despite what op-eds want you to think) and will seek out reliable sources, and multiple opinions. It's ten years of people building the knowledge base here.

I’m on the learn as you go program. I appreciate all the information and wisdom from those who have learned things the hard way or have really done their research. Try to do the very best you can with what you’v got. Amen

One more difference that 8 years made is that not as many people today who are professional scolds, missbelivers in science, or outright science deniers as there were back in the day when Scoby308 was getting his chicken odyssey underway.

Also people are no longer frightened of the social media soothsayers who quickly have become unimportant to whether a hen lays an egg or not, because after all the holistic nonsense is said and done hens and roosters will continue acting and being like hens and roosters have always acted and been.
