I Rescued a Chicken off the Road

I currently have 6 cornish cross chickens that are just about 5 months old, they are all doing pretty good but that is probably because I picked the most active ones out of 50 birds to keep. My dad used to get CX every year, he kept a few one year and they lived to see their first birthday even though they were not given a diet, unfortunately no chicken is healthy enough to survive being mauled by a coyote so I never found out how long they would have actually lived. Just because she is already fat does not mean you can't give her a diet. If you keep her in her own little area just make sure she gets to come out and move around a bit every day. Also, watch out of mites, CX rarely take dust baths and mites really love to turn them into massive mite cities.

IF I was going to try to keep her, I would put her on a diet. For me that means no pan full of food and lots of time to go scratch, a bit of good quality feed just before dark.
Also she will likely need a low roost or ladders to go up in the coop
Good luck!
