I sentenced two of my girls to die - and they want more!

soooo sad.

Sjisty, I sympathize with you. I lost eight young chicks recently. They got out and they are gone. I am crushed.

I hate it when that happens. I got my brahma rooster from a lady in another forum. She let us watch her chicks hatch and grow live online for 8 weeks, and we all kept reading about the updates. She gave a brahma pullet to another woman who really wanted a brahma and they had some sort of party and the pullet was goingto be a present, or something like that. Anyways, within a week the pullet dies, the reason? "The pullet fell into the mouth of our sweetest dog and she must've got a brain injury! She died soon after we're so sad, can we get please another pullet since the party is in a few days?" Those were the words of the woman, the pullet FELL into a dog's mouth (yeah right) and they wanted a replacement.

The lady never replied to them as far as I know, and she'd let me adopt one of her babies instead

If it were me I would insist on seeing where they were going to keep the hens. What you think is safe may not be what they think is safe.

I can certainly understand you being upset. It seems odd that both were lost in the same outting...did he explain what happened to them???
Personally, it would bother me a lot more to hear of losing birds to predators who've broken into the coop - because that says that the coop was NOT a safe place (and a coop should be a place of security). To lose a bird while free ranging usually says that the caretaker wanted to make the birds happy by giving them freedom and space...

I'm sorry for the loss you feel. I think this was a mistake, one in which a lesson was learned. I have lost 2 birds to dogs and I know from reading on here, many people have lost many chickens. It happens. I would forgive him, not hold him responsible for the pain you feel. I would let him buy some more birds, and make sure he is aware of the hurt you experienced at this loss and that you expect him to be more cautious with the new birds.
