i somehow acquired 2 runaways and i have questions. please help

Pics
i think if what i'm understanding you mean is what i wanted to do.
i do not know what a mullion is.
so i want to make like a wooden frame for the roof covering the whole roof area and then another wood frame for the front. that sounds so simple, right?
i have already built the door which you can’t tell because it is open in the pic. i'll attach another.
one piece of treated 2x4 is about $20 here at the moment 😢 and we just had a whole lot of big expense things happen all at the same time.
i'm trying to be patient (but i am not 😂) and it's very frustrating

Hi! Just read through your lovely thread! Congrats on getting adopted by this lovely pair! ❤️

Are your hens both still broody? I know you are still working on your setup, but I am all about chicken math! (Basic reason is 2 is too small a number, but also I love seeing chick pics!). Is there anywhere near you where you could purchase bantam eggs & see what happens? Or if you could acquire a few bantam day-old chicks to try giving to one of these mamas at night? There are many people here who can help w any questions that could pop up!

Following now to hear the rest of the story!

aww thanks 🥰
i don't think they are broody. they kinda just got up one day like it never happened 🤷🏻‍♀️

i'm not sure i'm doing a great job with grown chickens. i don't know what i would do with chicks.

i also think that the people who normally sell chickens and little chickens are on hold because of a couple cases of bird flu in the north that happened in february? i'm not exactly sure. but i'll see how it goes with the 2 first

If and when the time comes that you want to add more, many breeders sell pullets (young females) aged anywhere from 6 weeks to POL (point of lay.) They would already know one another from the floofball days, but you can skip all the heat lamp stuff etc. Plus there’s a much better chance that you will get all girls. <- this is what we did: three 7 1/2 week old pullets, three different breeds, but raised together and are buds.

We got ours from a local breeder who is certified as NPIC and also certified as AI-free by the state. Not a guarantee, but encouraging.

that's what i think about... like if i ended up with just one.. pullets would be the way to go.
in august they have a big farm show thing nearby and i'm pretty sure they would sell them there. i remember looking at the ducklings the one year. i did not come home with ducklings though! lol!

Those are such fun!

I did add on to my post about why I chose the seller that I did. She maintains tight biosecurity (brought the girls out to us); no ones goes onto her property, possibly tracking disease.
