House? No!
It is aptly named the Chicken Palace.
If it weren’t for the current rat visitors I would say it is nicer than the Big Coop that I roost in!
I will freely admit I got a bit carried away.
I propose "Chateau Tassels" for the coop cage! I meant cage!

sheesh

Oh no!
I now also keep a crate ready permanently. It hangs on chains from the rafters and is above their door so it gets maximum draft underneath!

Apparently I can’t even mention the word “broody” online…guess who is in the broody cage tonight? 🙄 lol if only she were a better mother!

😂😂😂 first day with the new door😂😂😂
it worked!
but it makes a noise.
i watched on the camera and nobody came out.
so i went out there to check and i opened the nestbox lid.
only thelma was sitting there. i could not see louise!

mind, this is early in the morning, so my brains aren't awake.

i looked all around under the coop. behind things, etc.
did she go out of the coop before the door closed last night?
i looked at thelma as if she might have eaten her. 😂😂😂

i opened the gnome door, and there was louise on the roost like "what was THAT?!?"

i think they have to get used to the door 😂😂😂

I had a hen who was an awesome incubator, but went NUTS when those fuzzy yellow things started breaking her eggs. For subsequent hatches, she was allowed to set for just over two weeks (my bantams hatch at 18-19 days) before I finished them off in the incubator. Worked like a charm!

did she try to hurt them? i never knew how violent and mean chickens could be before i met these chickens. it's alarming😂

She killed two before I realized what was going on. Poor babies! I rescued the third before she could do any serious damage and pulled the rest of the clutch to finish them inside. We ended up with four live chicks and one wannabe broody who must have been seriously impressed with how quickly her stolen eggs hatched ... but she was a good Mama to those poor little waifs. The "career mama" semi-brooded two more clutches. Both were finished off in the incubator. That hen is now part of a friend's roosterless flock, where she can set eggs to her heart's content and never have to do away with those nasty little intruders again!
