i somehow acquired 2 runaways and i have questions. please help

but what if you need them to go in and you don't have the jar?
You should see me, every time I head out from the kitchen to the run door, maybe 35’/ 10m. I literally pat myself down, and talk out loud, saying, ok, what do I need to bring out with me.

I generally remember everything but one item. 🙄

I chant things I need to remember over and over. Even so I am out putting out bait and used cat litter out as part of my escalating war on rats and I still forgot the cayenne pepper in the kitchen so will have to go back.

fox 4:05am
We had one in the run once, early in the morning. He had bitten his way through a 8 mm thick nylon rope to get inside. Jumped in the run or was waiting in the run till the pop door opened.

We heard a lot of panicking noises coming from the hen house. Got up to see the damage. 1 hen down. For the others we were in time to prevent more casualties.

Then the fox panicked, bc he couldn’t get out and was scared for the 2 leg predators. We opened the run doors and finally (s)he ran away with his tail between his legs.

Happened in June 2021. Never saw a fox in our garden again. But others in our neighbourhood have seen them foxes, polecats and pine martens on camera since.

that's horrifying! for everyone!
the fox last night looked young. he was still there by the time i got down the stairs and i flung the door open and made noise. i try to catch them every time so they know there's a human presence and don't get any bad ideas. sometimes i nearly fall down the stairs trying to get down there half asleep.

i had to google polecat. i don't think we have those. they look like a ferret and a pine marten had a love child.
