I spy TWO roosters in my brooder . . .

If there were I'd be quiet about it (here and there). I tend to throw up my hands in disgust and impatience pretty early in matters. I'm still impressed of their response at all. She had last asked me for yet more photos but of the chickens individually. I was kinda done at that point. Then when I opened email yesterday I was floored with gratitude.
I think it would’ve been worse if there were missing chicks overall, although I tend to be super picky with chicks, since I have limited flock space. It is super awesome that they are sending the missing ones, especially since you get 5 bonus chicks!

Yesss IKR!! Would be lovely and no charge either. Only about 827 miles. :lau I just checked :jumpy Roadtrip!!!!

I have always had a "thing" about upstate NY. As a child it was due to the tv show with roller skating Tootie who attended a private school in Poughkeepsie with her friends Blair, Jo and Natalie. The Facts of Life!!!!

Now as a big girl it is about Walkill and Patterson (which I have visited) and Warwick and Ramapo which I have yet to see! Now add your town to drop off beautiful chickens. :love
Lol road-trip someday. I actually live a few hours north of those areas. Mid & upper NY is full of beautiful farmland, sprinkled with small cities and towns along the way, add a side of Adirondack Mountains. 😊

Ahhh what a lovely vision, @Iluveggers.

Honestly, my husband got me all into this life (homesteading, small farm, animules (my mamma used to say that). At first I was ambivilent about it all. We were living in central Florida; very poor. Me - trying to not be overly influenced by social media (FB/Instagram) as in not be jealous or always desiring this or that based on what the "haves" possessed. Now, in GA, I am about a decade older; still poor (financially); but have a toootally different mindset. I have ditched FB and Insta. I am learning to embrace some of his lifestyle which makes for a happier marriage. Oh, I also pay a tad bit more attention to world happenings and C L E A R L Y if one does not have the ability to feed themself they are going to be in big T R O U B L E in the days to come; oh lawdy.

So, now I am learning all that I can learn. My choice is to grow my own food in the form of chickens and hopefully dwarf goats if time does not run out. I have taken on a part time job to help with putting the things in place that we'll need for self-sufficiency. Ok, off my soapbox for now. I'm sitting here writing down on my planner dates and such with my chicks so I can keep up with what needs to be done when. I am an avid planner user/travel journal keeper. Used to be a Happy Planner user. They are tres cute, but now I opt for more functional planners like Hobonichi Techo.

With three broods going I'll need some organization. Well, by the time the third brood comes in October brood one and two will be out in coop and I'll have new adventures with that. Got me one of those fold up, canvas chairs so I can hang out there, read with them while getting that Vit D I understand is to be a deterrent with diseases.

What you need is a small incubator. And, 3 or 4 more coops.

I was thinking no incubator and 3 more coops. :D With the order I just put in and now the replacement birds; ay yi yi. Excluding something happening to my flock I think I am good until 2024. And hopefully they will breed with each other. Boy, exciting times a coming.

To me, poor is a mindset.

You aren’t poor if you have happiness, someone to love and enough to live. ❤️

If you are interested in gardening at all, let me know! There are some very simple veggies to start with (even now you could get a small harvest), and your climate is more forgiving than mine with a later frost date. We try not to buy veggies from the grocery store from June until October, and I put up (can & freeze) any extra. With prices in stores and supply issues, it has come in handy, even if we eat a cucumber salad and tomatoes every day until they are gone, lol.

:) I am trying to get into gardening because I know it is a way to go are far as feeding oneself. The roadblock for me is that we are carnivores. I actually kinda got away from eating vegetables last year in favor of eating keto carnivore. I do know one thing, after COVID lockdown when we were finally able to return to in person worship this year (April) so many of the sisters had gained weight; ohmigoodness. I lost, all due to eating keto then keto carnivore; keeping my carbs below 20 grams/day (including yes, vegetable carbs). Well, I went back to eating SAD (Stupid American Diet) and now my weight is approaching pre-COVID numbers (198 ish). Last I looked it is at 184 like in my avatar photo here.

I ain't gonna lie, I was kinda cute in my fitted skirt and top in April. I need to get back to keto eating. Yup; I do!

I watched “That Sugar Film” on Amazon (it may be available on other platforms too.) I eat what I want when I want, but have cut anything with added sugar, and at my last physical I was at my pre-pregnancy weight (DS is 11. I haven’t been that size since then). So many processed foods have sugar…I had no idea. I even eat fresh baked sourdough and pasta a few times a week. It’s amazing the mental clarity that happened and how easy it is to fall and stay asleep. I give myself leeway for a birthday or holiday to have a cookie or piece of cake, but otherwise none at all. It has truly made such a difference. The documentary was such an eye-opener on things people *think* are health foods but are not.

Was originally thinking keto but I LOVE my veggies…lol. Kale and cucumbers are probably the two I could never live without!

I like 'em too but I love a rib eye 😉. Gonna look for that film. Thanks for the heads up. Oh and please share the gardening info. I planned on coming back in here and asking before it got too late.

DM me a list of things you would like to grow and I can send you some tips! Also, there’s a huge thread “What did you do in your garden today”, and lots of helpful people who will answer questions and give advice. 😊
