My local feed store is a Purina shop. When I got 2 ducks last spring, I asked them if they would start carrying the 40 lb bags of Purina duck pellets. I did not know my simple request was going to turn into a 3 month ordeal that included me contacting Purina directly to understand why these damn pellets are more rare than gold... But after a LOT of aggravation, things are now smooth and every 2 weeks when I drop in to pick up animal feed, they always have my pellets stocked and ready. This weekend I dropped in and one of the workers commented "since we started carrying those duck pellets for you, lots of people want to buy them."

Looks like I started a trend.... 😂

I have two TSC near me. The closer one is always out of the duck feed. The farther one seems to have some, but never that many. It's like the store sells ducklings and does not realize people will need duck food the rest of the year. I don't get it.

That's great you were able to get a steady supply for the area!

Yeah I can relate. The TSC in my town hardly ever gets the duck pellets and when they do, customers fight over who gets it. You would think that the law of supply and demand would drive them to order a larger quantity but apparently they aren't that bright and I REFUSE to drive an hour to the next TSC that actually carries it. Let me add that there are THREE other TSCs that are closer but NONE of them carry duck pellets in the large bags.

You would think! TSC will let you order/reserve it online and then pick it up. When I start to get low I check the website for a few days until I can get at least 5 40 lb bags.

I definitely stock up when I get it. I just try to be kind and not buy them out. The only bummer is somethings cost more online than in the store. I don't really understand why the cost is different depending on how you purchase it.

Question.. is this ALWAYS a supply issue you guys are having? Or do you think this is a more recent covid related supply issue? I agree with Quaties comment - if they sell ducks they surely must expect a demand for duck food :)
That is a good point. I don't know if it is a covid thing or not. Covid allowed me time to build a coop and to get my ducks.

I have never tried to order the duck pellets online... However, I do order my horse food from TSC online. Here's what is weird.... If I order the horse food from the Conway store, it costs $2 more per bag AND they charge me a ridiculously expensive shipping charge even if I pick it up at the store. If I order it from the Clinton, Morrilton, or North Little Rock stores, it's cheaper per bag and no shipping charges at all to pick it up at the store.

So I've learned that ordering things from TSC is flukey.... I have a much better experience with my local co-op feed store.

Reason I mention is that we've had supply interruptions here for several brands and types of fowl food and all manner of animal health products. Even stuff that is made with ingredients sourced locally (in this country) have had problems with getting bagged stock out to the retailers due to covid related limitations on production and shipping constraints.

I've resorted to always buying my next bag when I open the current one.. so I know I have a little wiggle room in my purchasing times.

The TSC by me lets you order and reserve stuff online that isn't carried often in the store, but they make you pay for the shipping to the TSC..... and it is like 20 dollar shipping for 1 bag of feed 😂
