I started them in the incubator today! 6-20-12

When do I introduce them to food and water? I have it in the brooder but have not shown it to them.

Well, my broodies waited about a day or so to show the chicks how to eat and drink. They will be fine for up to 3 days without eating and drinking because their bellies are full of yolk. I would wait maybe until tomorrow. Give them tonight to rest.

So the iffys were blah and then the other 2 i was waiting on quit sometime from my last candle and lockdown or during lock down who knows... No movement or sign of life so i candled.... O well i got 8 little fluffy butts all spread out sleeping in the brooder... :D now the hard part figuring out which 2 i can keep. ;) my little weak showgirl is doing better now still sleeping tons compare to the others, but figured cause she pip zipped and hatched very quickly....

Now my incubator is cleaned be disinfected & just about ready for my duck eggs when they arrive
Oooo all the torture this 1st hatch i really have to be crazy to egarly jump in on another hatch...

As far as sleeping chickster my little ones sleep alot, i introduced them to food an water once they fully fluffed up and were cozy in the brooder cause i had seen some of them peckimg around in the incubator at the egg shells ...

My kids have decided to do shifts tonight until this little one that is pipping comes out. I went ahead & ordered some silkies since we had to toss all of our silkie eggs. They will be here Friday. My golden polish are hatching great so far & I have 1 black Cochin & 1 Blue Cochin. I went ahead & checked my other bator bc I smelled another stinker even though I checked it yesterday. I had to toss 11 more eggs. It was my duck egg with the black dot in it. It didn't smell yesterday. That makes a total of 35 I've had to toss in just a couple of days. I now have everything out of the bator that was going crazy with the temp. Maybe since they have made it this far they will have a beeter chance in the better of the 2 LGs.

Out of the 20 that I set I ended up with 7 (4 Golden Polish, 3 Cochins) that came 1-2 days early. I still have one pipping. 3 Jerseys, 2 silkies, and 8 Golden Polish that arent doing anything. Maybe this one pipping will encourage the rest.

I may have to separate the ones that hatched this morning from the one's that hatched yesterday. The ones that hatched this morning want to sleep and the ones that hatched yesterday are up wandering around and pecking at everything. I have 2 that are crybabies! Wow! They woke me up at 5:30AM just a peeping like crazy ready to get out of the incubator. I guess the kids didn't do their shifts as good as I thought they would (3 were dry in the bator this morning). lol. Their both stretched out on the couch sound asleep.

Im gonna take individual shots today :) .. My 2nd to lastto hatch passed, she was the smallest out of all of them and was struggling to stand... Wasnt surprised everyone else is doing great and eatting and getting fat... My 1st to hatch is the cutest she come running to the edge of the bator when she sees me enter the room... And she follows my finger... Its too cute she if its a she may be the one i keep... I was hoping for more showgirls to pick from but only got 2 after the one that passed . Super cute ones just might mean i have to get more eggs lol...
Oo boy i feel a new addiction coming on...

Working on getting my incubator temps ... And waiting for my duck eggs... Just hope they arrive in one piece and all intact.

I have to admit, I'm still a little worried about my last one too. It seems to be breathing heavier than the others, but it stands as well as them and chirps pretty loudly. We'll see, I guess. Gonna take more pics after my 2 year old goes down for her nap.
