I Sure hope I'm wrong

Here's the thing. The whole point of a BSL is the ease of sexing. At hatch and for up to a week following, the BSL is easily, easily sexed. Black capped head=female, while white cap spot=male. Again, either the seller was ignorant of the ability to sex them easily or knew very well what they were. Too bad. The gold color bleeding through corresponds to the female gold/red leakage on the breast, betraying the Red half of the parentage.

Good news is that at 20-22 weeks, they'll be very good eating. Just let the meat rest in the frig to relax the muscle tissues and allow rigor to release. Great flavor.

So now I know I am a bad guesser!! I had sexed females sent and have never got a male yet. So What do I know about it.

Hey, until a year or two ago I would have confused a tom turkey for a hen chicken and would have happily walked away expecting that turkey to lay me breakfast...

Perfect for eating. Dual purpose birds need time to grow enough meat on them. Just let them "rest" a day or two in the fridge before you cook them. I was impatient and ate one the day I butchered it and it was leather!

Oh yeah, Welcome to BYC!

If you could deal with the crowing.. you could keep them and harvest those lovely saddle and sickle feathers and sell them to hair salons. The barred variety is popular for dyeing and such.
