I think I am going to have to do the unthinkable!

I cooked the last of my chickens' eggs this morning

so DH already went by the store and bought a carton of (cage free) eggs. With 5 egg eating people in our family and only 3 newly laying girls, they aren't keeping up. Only one thing to do, I suppose....get more chickens!

I used the last 8 of my eggs last night for dinner. Told the hubby to get the girls in gear so I could fix breakfast, he went out and told them, then the mailman showed up and delivered two boxes of eggs for us to hatch. If he would stop putting the eggs in the incubator, I could do more baking!

I haven;t gone out yet today to see if there are any for me, but I am on my way out now!! Wish me luck!

Ok, NOTHING!....But the nests looked like maybe they were in there and I suspect maybe the little dog went in a robbed the eggs if there were any. That hasn't been the case so far though. I have kept a close eye on the little dog when he is out.

as a wise man once said.... a watched chicken will lay no egg.. or.. chickens told to hurry up and lay an egg will take twice as long to make it possible to finish that cake

*singing* sunshine days....everybody's smiling...sunshine days (brady bunch)

We were just outside working on the new coop when I noticed that one of the MF D'uccles was missing. I checked the nest box, nope, not there. I searched everywhere and couldn't find her. Just when I was about convinced that she had gotten out I spied her little body sitting in the dirt, in a far corner, under a set of stairs. She was busily making a little nest out of twigs and feathers. A lovely little far off dirt/twig/feather nest, into which she promptly deposited today's egg.

At least she laid one... her sister didn't deposit one at all today.

If my hens started wandering off to have eggs, I wouldn't find them for a month at least. Too many corners and hidey holes in our yard. Although, I did find one one time under the tree. Wished I had had a basket, woulda been one happy Easter egg hunt.

Bec, I didn't read all of the responses, but did anyone give you good advice...you need more hens!
