i think i am gonna lose one of my chicks at any minute (updated)

It's bad but this happens sometimes. The other chicks may not have been letting her eat. At least that's what it sounds like to me.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do. I just lost my favorite baby last night, his kidneys failed for no good reason. All you can do is comfort him and keep him cozy in his final moments if he's going to die.

so i gave her about 2 syringes of sugarwater and about one of the mush. toward the end she began to perk up and somewhat follow the syringe. i had to answer the office phone and am about to give her another of the mush. brb.

ok i gave her another syringe of the mush and i am giving her a break. i don't want to stress her too much. when i put her down after she seems a little more perky. she def does not like being alone but her cries are now calls to the others. i guess that is a good sign.

how much, how often do i need to do this?

Maybe every hour or so for the first little bit. You may be able to get her to eat on her own by offering her her very own bowl of food. In the past I have had to "teach" chicks to eat by holding them in my hand and very gently pushing their beak into the food/water with a finger. I would definately stay on top of feeding her for a day or two at least. The good thing is you got something into her. You could also put some water out for her with a little sugar in it but I wouldn't make it as strong as what you hand feed. Hope this helps.....

I don't really know what to tell you about how much at each feeding. You may just have to experiment a little because you don't want to feed too much but she needs to gain strength.......Good luck though!

thanks.

she is pretty unhappy right now. constant chirping. i may put her back with the others just for her comfort and still feed her hourly.
