I think I like quail better than chickens. Anybody with me?

Don't get me wrong, I like my chooks too, but quail seem easier so far. Granted, "so far" isn't very far. One week to be almost exact, but I am forecasting an easier time with quail. Less space, less mess, easier to process, etc.

Anybody with both feel the same?

Uh Oh..... Thats How It Starts! 1st A Batch Of Quail Then Next Thing You Know You'll Be Hiding Extra Incubators And Brooders In The Closets....:d

I like em enough to hatch 200-300 at a time, but either way when it comes to feeding them the bills just keep coming in..lol. So far they seem to pay for themselves somewhat.
I like em so much I'm will to sell them to you too. lol

Had chickens when I was a youngster at home. I was too young to know how to appreciate them. But, I ate many'a egg that they layed. Now......some 40-45 years later...........I want some really bad, but the wife doesn't want them..............on the porch..........in the flower bed.......pooping in the yard......... Yeah, I could keep'em up, but I wanna let'em out some to help out on the tick population. BUT, as for my Bobs.......I'm finishing off the remainder of 18 that was cooked yesterday......smothered in gravy

They just don't get any better when it comes to eatin'em, and listenen' to them whistle down there in the pen! Yep, they got the Rhode Island Red rooster beat when it comes to vocals....LOL

AGREED! I just recently got into quail about a month and a half ago after raising chickens for 2 years. I am in love with these little critters. They are wonderful to have around and fun to watch. When you have to cull em out they are wayyyyyyy easier to process than the chickens not to mention in my opinion they taste better as well. The buttons are fantastic for anyone who loves to watch birds. They are HILARIOUS! Anywho, I agree with you 100% they are more fun than chickens and way easier to take care of.

DH is with you! We got our first 22 quail about 8 weeks ago, and another larger group of 60 a couple weeks later. DH likes them so much he calls them "my quail". He's always been suppotive about the chickens, building coops, etc...but they're my thing, not his. The quail on the other hand quickly won him over.

I'm enjoying them too. They are much easier to care for, they mature fast, they lay well, etc. Our first group are 10 weeks old this weekend. We'll process the males in the next few days.

ETA: And we also find them to be very peaceful and sweet in comparison to chickens.

Funny you posted this, I've been thinking the same thing about my Cortunix and I've only had them a few days!
I love how LOW care these guys are! I have two rabbit wire cages set up for them, 3 extra roos in one cage and 4 hens and a roo in the other... I have given each cage a one gallon poultry waterer and one of those long red plastic feeders with the hinged top... I have only had to refill water every other day and it's because it's gotten dirty, not because they run out! I have not had to refill either feeder yet and I filled it the day I got them!
I have the cages on 2X4s so the droppings fall through to the coop floor... EASY PEASY!

I cannot wait to get my new bator so I can start hatching these guys out and selling them! They are adorable to watch, not loud, easy and cheap to care for, eggs and meat are yummy, what's not to like?!

I recently lost my last chicken hen and two ducks to a racoon nearly 3 weeks ago. I only have one duck left. I'm thinking that I will not be getting any more chickens and I will simply have ducks and quail. I LOVE duck eggs.

I've considered getting out of chickens and keeping only gamebirds....but there are some chickens that I have that are just too sweet to get rid of

If I had started with quail, I'd probably never have gotten chickens, I do like them better
