Initially I had 1 broody hen, so I bought a dozen fertilized eggs. Another hen joined her in the roosting box beside her, they took turns sitting on the eggs. I decided to share the eggs between them. All good. Now, it’s day 19, both hens are doing their job. My concern is, they are 1 1/2 feet above the floor in the roosting nest. They have been able to get to food and water no problem. My problem is that how will the chicks get water and food? I’m going to have to move them. At what point should I do this? Will the first chick be ok until the last hatches without the food and water available? Do I try and rig something up ( no idea how I will but if necessary I will figure something out). I do have an area in the coop that is separated where I can put them, it’s about 4x4 which leads to my next question. Can both hens be in the 4x4 area together or will they kill each other’s chicks. What should I do

If the two hens have been brooding together the entire time, then I believe that the chicks should be fine with both mommas in the area, as the broodies should split the parenting like they split the incubating.
I'd see what others say, though.

Most mothers don't bring their chicks out of the nest for 2-3 days. I will tag @MGG @CluckNDoodle @007Sean for the rest. Hope it all ends up okay!
Thank You

they both have their own roosting box with half the eggs

Is there a lip on front of nesting box? If so they should be ok for hatching , at that point you will have to move them to a nesting area on floor with access to water and chick starter. Mammas should take it from there.
Yes there is a lip. Thank You
