I think I picked a cockeral! Maybe three! Oops...

Ahh so pure barred is another way of saying homozygous barred and a heterozygous barred is also possible.

Indeed, and you will get heterozygous males from a homozygous male over a non-barred female, too, but the pullets from that cross will also be barred.

Update on "Dusty" now 11 weeks. Comb and wattles have grown some and are red but he/she is still the same size as the other 2 the same age. I haven't seen any difference in posture between the 3. No crowing...tail feathers look like the other pullets.
I found a picture of "dad" since he is now for sale. Dad's father was a blue Cochin, mother unknown. Is there any way with the rooster pictured below crossed with a cuckoo marans hen that this little bird can still be a hen? There was a long discussion on here about sex linked barring. Now that I have pics of dad, does anything change? I need to rehome soon if there is no way it can be a hen...

I'm afraid there is very little chance that he could be a pullet [never say never, genetic weirdness does happen] The dad is not barred, and he looks very red-wattled for 11 weeks old. He should only start growing the rooster feathers in another month or so, maybe a little later because he was slower to develop.

OK, you're going to get real sick of me asking for help in sexing my chicks. Previously in this thread it was determined that the barred bird I own is a Cockeral, unless he turns out to be a genetic fluke. I went and got 2 more birds to replace him (if/when he ever crows) and picked these 2. The white and gold bird I'm pretty confident with being a girl but when I got home, the little red one has me second guessing. It is smaller and might be from a later hatch (8 wks old, instead of 11) or mom might have been a RIR and it is 11 wks. Did I goof again? It is so hard when they are running around the pen...
Thanks for your patience.

We never get sick of questions like this!

I agree the lighter bird is female, but I'm really ambivalent about the red bird. Even at 8 weeks I'd expect a lot more comb, but the coloring just looks male to me. It looks like the red has darker shading on the wings, and the bird just doesn't feminine. I sure hope I'm wrong, and I'll fully apologize to her later for saying she didn't look girly enough

Maybe post pics again in a few weeks?

Thanks for the input. I can't believe I might have picked another roo

. The wing feathers don't really look darker in person but it does have some partridge? looking feathers here and there on the winds and some of the long wing feathers are blue. It should be a very pretty bird either way. I'm just a bit frustrated but it is what it is and I'll deal with it in a few weeks...for both the red and the barred. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they both ended up being girls
