I think my chicken has an impacted crop.

I have a chicken named coal that has a rather large crop that's feels like it has a lot of water in and a lot of grit/sand/stray of some sort and has been like lifting her crop and ducking her head at the same time. What should I do. I don't think we are up for surgery at home and it's too expensive for us to pay for the vets.

It sounds like she is trying to clear the crop. Sometimes a large piece of something can get stuck where the crop drains. I had that happen once. Get your fingers in the crop and try to feel through it. You may need to move your fingers around but you should be able to find the opening. Try to feel if anything is there.

If it looks like she is choking when you re doing that ease up. you don't want to push the crop contents up into her throat too far.

You could also try olive oil or coconut oil to lubricate things to help them move along.

If her breath is starting to smell sour you can give her some cider vinegar to help with that.

Thanks. She does smell. We just rinsed her but still smells. She is a bantam so itll be difficult to fill thro her crop. Would massaging her belly to see if that'll help. I find it's rather squishy like it's full of water and muck and solids at the bottom. What worries me is that is hangs alot more than it should. Can massaging clear that large piece that'll help it drain?

You can still do the crop massage. Just one or fingers.

If she is blocked at the drain massage can help move things through. Try some coconut oil. If it's solid just put some bits in her beak. Her crop is hanging because it is too full and that hanging also makes it more difficult for it to drain. if she is sitting you can prop it up a little.

Are you saying her belly also feels watery and squishy? If so that is a different but possibly related problem.
