I think my hen's comb fell off??!!??

That is weird! If it doesn't bother her she should be fine I would think. My dad had a RIRed roo get bad frostbite on his comb so he put him in a cage in his garage which he tried hard to get out of and ripped his comb off. By spring it healed up nice and he was a smoooth comb.
But for a comb to just fall off with no signs of trauma, that's just weird! Maybe someone on BYC has had it happen or might know why.

Just the night before last, I was out in the barn tucking the birds in and I saw one of my hens was bleeding pretty badly on her head at the base of her comb. I took her in to clean it to be able to get a better look at it, it looked as though it was ripped at the base on her head, and there was a cut on the middle which was bleeding the worst. I am thinking she did something trying to jump up onto one of the roosts or Rico my Roo may have gotten her by the comb during his evening love making session.

I just cleaned it up, put some Vaseline and triple ab on it and put her back. Yesterday morning it had a bit of a scab on it. I think it will be just fine.

I certainly wouldn't cull her. But this is so strange. I think maybe the cold makes their combs easier to be injured...or at least I am starting to think my hens keep finding ways to be brought inside to the warm house ;)
