It was once rare in chickens...right?

Yeah, I have Marek's Vet Manual. And it mentions that chicken and turkeys can be infected but it states that other mammals and birds are refractory to infection. Which means they either don't respond to treatment or are not affected by the infection. That is what I'm trying to find out...are Japanese quail affected/infected by a natural contraction of MD, it's obvious they can be infected by injection of the virus. I couldn't find any case studies being conducted on Japanese quail and natural contraction of the disease. It was once rare in chickens...right?

Oops, in my speed reading I passed right over that, it does say quail can get it naturally. End of discussion! but would still like to see case studies and how they conducted them.Yeah, I have Marek's Vet Manual. Not all of California, just Southern California.Ca right now is experiencing New Castle. I don't know much about that disease but since your in Ca I'd read up on it. Newcastle is contagious to humans.
Were your cots living in direct contact with your chickens? It sounds more like MG. When you hatch chicks from this group do the chicks live long or are sickly? Did you loose chicks from these parents?
